The Role
The Lumen Production Systems Infrastructure team is seeking customer focused, detail-oriented engineers that enjoy solving problems, delighting customers, and have backgrounds from a variety of different fields. If you have experience managing full application stacks from the system up through a custom application, managing part of a network from layer 3 and higher, we’d like to talk with you!

Location
This is a work from home position within the U.S.
The Main Responsibilities
- In this position, the candidate will be working with a small, focused team responsible for production systems including SASE, SDWAN, DNS, and other IP services.
- The chosen candidate will be technically responsible for a broad range of systems and services supporting everything from the physical layer, configuration & performance tuning throughout the stack, including integration with performance and fault systems.
- The ideal candidate will be working with planning and architect teams to improve and/or develop new technologies and enhance existing platforms related to our various service offerings.
- Due to the highly technical nature of this position, continuing technical education is required. The economic impact of this job to Lumen can be substantial. Failure to perform at acceptable levels may result in significant loss of revenue for Lumen and substantial legal liabilities.
What We Look For in a Candidate
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or other related field or the equivalent in training and experience.
- Minimum four (4) years work experience in Linux systems administration, including scripting, configuring, tuning & networking.
- Experience communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, with technical and non-technical personnel.
- Experience with Linux/KVM and/or OpenStack.
- Strong knowledge of network concepts such as TCP/IP, DHCP, subnetting, etc.
- Experience with automation tools such as Ansible and Cockpit.
- Strong knowledge of server and storage systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with configuration and administration of Zabbix, Splunk, syslog, and/or similar tools.
- Programming experience related to systems administration (Python, Perl, etc.).
- Experience with Docker containers a plus.
- Experience with TACACS and bastion/jump servers.
- Experience in network administration and troubleshooting/analysis (DNS, IPsec, BGP, etc).
- Good understanding of routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Experience with cloud hosting technologies such as AWS, Azure, etc.

Compensation
The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee’s primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual’s qualifications.
Location Based Pay Ranges
$80510 – $107340 in these states: AR, ID, KY, LA, ME, MS, NE, SC, and SD.
$84740 – $112980 in these states: AZ, AL, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, MO, MT, NM, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY.
$88980 – $118630 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, OR, and RI.
$93210 – $124280 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DE, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
As with the pay range variety that’s based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.
