Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. We are partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline. Bechtel Manufacturing & Technology, Inc. offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the semiconductor manufacturing, electric vehicle, and data center markets. Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, the M&T global business unit also includes colleagues working in Arizona, Ohio, Texas, India, and additional project locations around the world.

 

Job Summary:

In this role, you will oversee the work of architectural sub-contractors, writing and reviewing scopes of work, and reviewing and approving bids for supplying and installing architectural material and scope. You will also have opportunities to plan, develop, design, coordinate, and review architectural work on large projects with unique requirements. You will prepare discipline estimates and work plans, review and approve design documents, interpret regulations, and assist with performance reporting. Your recommendations for resolving complex issues will help ensure client satisfaction with a project’s architectural aspects. This position is expected to be on the construction site in New Albany, Ohio. 

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews architectural work on various sized projects or assignments in support of a global business unit​. Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of personnel​ 
  • Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules​ 
  • Prepares discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting​ 
  • Develops conceptual designs for architectural projects or projects having specialized or unique architectural requirements​ 
  • Reviews and approves quotes and bids from sub-contractors​ 
  • Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data​ 
  • Coordinates with client representatives to obtain their approval of architectural aspects of the work​ 
  • Reviews and approves key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders, for the project to which assigned​ 
  • Mentors architectural personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development​ 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a degree in Architecture and 10-13 years of relevant experience, or 14-17 years of relevant work experience​
  • Preferred but not required: a license to practice architecture from a recognized licensing board

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Technical Skills:

 

  • Design Software Proficiency:  Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, BIM (Building Information Modeling) software, and Construction Cloud or BIM360 model management
  • Building Systems Knowledge:  Understanding of Architectural systems, building materials and building codes. Have a general knowledge of all other aspects of building construction including: Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Civil, Landscaping, Life Safety Systems, Telecommunications, etc.
  • Data Center Infrastructure:   Familiarity with data center design standards (e.g., TIA-942, Uptime Institute).
  • Energy Efficiency and Environmental Standards:  Knowledge of LEED certification processes and sustainable design principles.

Project Management Experience:

  • Construction Management:  Experience overseeing data center construction projects from conception to completion.
  • Budgeting and Cost Management:  Ability to create and manage project budgets and timelines.
  • Contract Management:  Experience in negotiating contracts and managing relationships with contractors and vendors.

Regulatory Knowledge

  • Building Codes and Regulations:  In-depth understanding of local, state, and federal building codes, safety regulations, and zoning laws.
  • Environmental Regulations:  Familiarity with environmental impact assessments and compliance procedures.

Industry Experience

  • Data Center Experience:  Previous work experience in data center design, construction, or operations.
  • Semiconductor Fab Experience:  Previous work experience in Semiconductor Fabs or Cleanroom design, construction, or operations.
  • EV Battery Manufacturing Experience:  Previous work experience in EV Battery Manufacturing design, construction, or operations.
  • Collaborative Work:  Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including IT, facilities management, and operations.

Soft Skills

  • Communication:  Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information clearly.
  • Problem-Solving:  Ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions under pressure.
  • Leadership and Teamwork:  Experience leading teams and fostering collaboration among diverse groups.

Certifications (Optional but Beneficial)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • LEED Accredited Professional
  • Other relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA, Six Sigma)
