This is an exciting and challenging job that will fully utilize your engineering degree and project management skills in a way that few positions can offer. Chart Project Engineers work on all stages of a project, from development through installation and commissioning. The type of work will include feasibility discussions with project management and sales, scheduling, and equipment sizing and analysis to ensure Chart engineering design standards and customer specifications and needs are met.

What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be…

  • Create plans, designs and customer solutions for assigned products and projects.
  • Develop and maintain process instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) based on Customer specifications as required for the project.
  • Perform various calculations and analyses such as, but not limited to, fluid flow analysis, heat leak, pressure vessel thickness, pressure-building, vaporizer sizing, and/or piping and valve sizing, etc.
  • Assist designers in developing of general arrangement and production/assembly drawings.
  • Work with sales teams and customers to gain a better understanding of the system requirements and their implications to the system design and proposed solution.
  • Work with strategic suppliers to determine the correct components to be used in systems. 
  • Provide regular updates of design status, drawings, BOMS and purchased equipment to project management.
  • Work with the shop and project management to meet customer and engineering requirements for fabrication, assembly and shipping.
  • Support production personnel during fabrication.
  • Conduct onsite field checkouts and commissioning of equipment.
  • On occasion, support the Proposals Team with quotation assistance.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Your Education Should Be…

BS degree required, preferably in Mechanical Engineering

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

Working Conditions

  • Office environment
  • Engineering lab include outdoor testing
  • Work related travel may be required (approximately 10% maximum)

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, sitting and walking
  • Frequent computer work

Work Hazards:

  • Production floor environment will involve possible exposure to materials with rough edges, temperature extremes, moving mechanical parts, occasional flying debris, welding flash, chemical cleaning solvents and their odors.
  • Liquid hydrogen testing

Your Professional Experience Should Be…

  • 3 years of experience preferred in the engineering, design, fabrication and commissioning of mechanical equipment used in the pressure vessel, boiler, or oil and gas industry
  • Working knowledge of industrial codes and common engineering practices used within the oil and gas industry. Codes of specific interest are ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII Division 1, and NFPA 52/59A
  • Experience with MathCAD calculation software
  • Experience with hands-on technical work which requires partnering with field operation and production staff
  • Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks® CAD modeling software, preferred
  • Experience with JD Edwards or other ERP and PDM software, preferred
  • Experience with mass manufacturing facilities, preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter and a team leader.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage multiple tasks.
  • Understanding of heat transfer, structural analysis, and fluid flow.
  • Basic understanding of cryogenic liquids, compressed gas, and their properties.
  • Must be proficient with the Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
