Assist physicians and management in coordinating perfusion services and staffing. Provides quality service in caring, professional manner. - Maintenance and operation of the cardiopulmonary bypass equipment.
- Appropriate documentation in the perfusion record and entry of data into computer programs.
- Administration of drugs and other agents during cardiopulmonary bypass under the supervision of the cardiac anesthesiologist and cardiac surgeon.
- Will have an understanding of the following techniques: left heart bypass, myocardial protection, blood conservation, anticoagulation monitoring/analysis, physiological monitoring/analysis, blood gas and blood chemistry monitoring/analysis, induction of hypothermia with reversal including deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, hemodilution, and ultrafiltration. Extracorporeal CPR, V/V and V/A ECMO.
- Maintenance and operation of equipment: Cell Saver, IAPB and ancillary centrifugal pumps.
- Participates in Quality Management and research projects.
- Operation of the I-Stat Point-of-Care Instrument.
- Provides guidance, leadership and support to the Carilion ECMO program.
- Evaluate and order supplies for perfusion services and participate in the supply contracting process as needed.
- Assist in the development and implementation of long-range planning for perfusion services.
- Maintain open and supportive communication channels with the surgeons, hospital staff, and hospital administration.
- Ensure the perfusionists remain compliant with government regulations as well as hospital and perfusion policies and procedures.
- Review and revise the perfusion policy and procedure manual as needed.
- Coordinate the on-call, vacations, holidays, and general day-to-day scheduling.
What We Require:
Education: Two years of education in credentialed perfusion school. Bachelor degree preferred.
Experience: Two years of experience as clinical perfusionist with a minimum of 200 perfusions for open heart surgery preferred. Experience may be obtained in a training program.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Must be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Must abide by CVSA policies including but not limited to compliance, coding and billing protocols as well as all personnel policies. Cannot be disbarred, excluded, or otherwise ineligible for federal health care programs. Demonstrated leadership experiences. A willingness and availability to work additional hours as needed. Excellent communication skills.
