BWXT is currently seeking a Materials Procurement Engineer for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA!

BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers.

 

The Materials Procurement Engineer will be part of a diverse and multi-discipline team working on a variety of projects including next generation reactor design, reactor component/equipment development, medical isotopes, and advanced manufacturing technology development.

Job Description / Duties:

 

  • Prepare and execute Commercial Grade Dedication Plans.
  • Primary engineering interface with suppliers for the fabrication of subcontracted parts and assemblies
  • Responsible for analyzing new requirements (interface with AT Design & MFG Eng., Etc.).
  • Establishing procurement specifications & procurement packages (applicable Design information, Drawings, Material properties, Verification requirements from Test, Inspection Requirements, SAT/FAT – along with contract terms and conditions)
  • Verifying the acceptability of sublet components, and working closely with supplier manufacturing, quality and technical personnel to resolve issues. Expected to learn and become expert in supplier’s methods and processes.
  • Reviews and analyzes design, contract and drawing specifications, and prepares technical ordering requirements for subcontract material and assemblies used in the fabrication of nuclear pressure vessels and other special purpose components.
  • Leads internal technical teams when preparing for and evaluating work done at the suppliers.
  • Verifies that the supplier’s fabrication processing and procedures, as well as delivered components, are adequate and meet ordering requirements.
  • Reviews and dispositions supplier-generated procedures and certifications. Expected to learn and become expert in supplier’s methods and processes relevant to product quality.
  • Participates in supplier audits, surveillance and witnessing of operations at suppliers. Works with Purchasing, Quality and other Engineering Disciplines to develop and qualify new suppliers.
  • Evaluates and contributes to disposition of discrepant material. Reviews certifications and performs technical releases on acceptable material.
  • Assists in the development of cost estimates in support of proposals.

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • An Engineering degree is required. 
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience is required. 
  • Experience in Materials Management / Purchasing is required.
  • Must have familiarity with Government Purchasing regulations FARS and DFARS.
  • Must have strong Power Point, Excel and Word skills.
  • Ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely written and verbal communication including technical reports and presentations.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Travel (10-20%) domestic and international is required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.

 

 

Pay: $62,000.00 – $109,000.00

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $62,000.00 and $109,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed ‘at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
