  • The Manager will uphold inclusive leadership values, develop, and care for the team. They will work to influence a positive safety culture at American Airlines and ensure a one team mentality focused on compliance with corporate and governmental safety standards and regulations.
  • Manages and supports the team in implementation and customer adoption of safety programs, and transition those to business ownership to reduce team member injuries and aircraft ground damage.
  • Demonstrates safety leadership attributes promoting a strong safety culture through effective partnership with the operation.
  • Mentor leaders on industry best safe work practices and hazard reporting and safety risk management.
  • Ensure the quality of learning investigations for accidents, incidents, instances of non-compliances and nearmisses, provide insights into the root causes and contributing factors, as well as recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Ensure that safety team participates in investigations, JSC/APC meetings, and other Safety related meetings/events.
  • Communicates with team and business partners on the status of significant safety issues.
  • Ensures consistent reporting product output across the team’s area of expertise
  • Represents American Airlines at industry meetings and exchanges industry safety information
  • Maintains liaison with the FM, OSHA, and other local and federal entities regarding issues relating to ground safety
  • Ensure prompt response to ground safety issues through safety hotline calls, employee correspondence, and recommendations.
  • Performs any additional duties and responsibilities, as assigned, to achieve departmental and company safety objectives.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to Safety Business Partners who are stationed in multiple locations
  • Travel required – up to 50% of the time.

All you’ll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Safety, engineering, aviation, or equivalent work experience/training
  • 5 years’ experience in the airline industry with at least 2 years safety program management

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of applicable regulations and company policies and procedures
  • Experience interfacing with FAA, government agencies, labor, and inter-department communications
  • Aircraft accident and employee injury investigation training and experience
  • Training applicable to requirements of position
