The Role

The Manager, Health and Safety Programs reports to the Director, Environment, Health, & Safety within the Finance organization at Lumen. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and/or maintaining various elements of the company’s safety management system. This position will lead a team of health and safety professionals responsible for a variety of programs including but not limited to safety policy, safe work practices and procedures, safety training, incident management and OSHA recordkeeping/reporting, EHS data management, property protection, safety equipment and supplies, fleet safety including compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), leading or participating in safety committees, responding to requests for technical support from all business units, and supporting EHS compliance and field programs for company operations within a geographic region.

This is a fully remote position open to candidates based anywhere in the U.S.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and governance for the company’s health and safety function.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design, develop, and implement health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Perform and/or ensure the completeness and accuracy of periodic risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Lead the safety training function and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the effective training of employees on health and safety practices and procedures.
  • Oversee the incident reporting/management process to ensure the efficacy of the company’s process to investigate and report on incidents and develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Oversee the company’s property protection program and support as-needed recurring property insurance marketing and underwriting efforts including our loss prevention inspection program.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and analyze health and safety performance metrics and provide regular reports to stakeholders.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and regulatory changes to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Support the company’s emergency preparedness program and provide expert safety advice to the business continuity function related to employee safety.
  • Oversee the implementation of ergonomic programs and initiatives to reduce workplace injuries.
  • Liaise with external agencies and regulatory bodies as needed.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. (Work experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety management, preferably in the telecommunications industry.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.

Compensation

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee’s primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual’s qualifications.

Location Based Pay Ranges

$94,420 – $125,890 in these states: AR, ID, KY, LA, ME, MS, NE, SC, and SD.
$99,390 – $132,510 in these states: AZ, AL, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, MO, MT, NM, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY.
$104,360 – $139,140 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, OR, and RI.
$109,330 – $145,770 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DE, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.

As with the pay range variety that’s based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.
