BWXT is currently seeking a Lifting & Handling Technologist for its Lynchburg, VA location!
Job Description/Duties:
- Assists with evaluations of lifting, rigging, and handling practices, methods, and issues.
- Provides lifting and handling insight and support in a production environment.
- Works with a “Safety Focus” and participates in safety awareness and improvements.
- Assists with reviews of drawings, procedures, purchase requisitions, tool requests, and change reviews.
- Engages with all areas and levels of the plant, vendors, and suppliers, and other BWXT facilities.
- Assists with crane and rigging training.
- Provides technical support to personnel and production areas with lifting and rigging issues or questions.
- Creates and updates documentation to support lifting and handling projects and issues.
- Supports improvements, new methods, and/or standards.
- Develops workable production devices, tools, fixtures, etc. from concepts.
- Leads teams and serves as a lifting and handling resource in the facility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications/Requirements:
- Minimum of an Associates degree in technical field plus two (2) years of experience, or a minimum six (6) years of relevant experience.
- Must have previous experience in crane, lifting and rigging operations.
- Must have knowledge of periodic inspection requirements for cranes, rigging, and lifting fixtures.
- Must be knowledgeable of crane and rigging requirements and techniques.
- Ability to provide crane and rigging training with an established syllabus.
- Previous industry experience along with lifting and regging experience; certification(s) from training institutes, providers, or nationally recognized organizations are a plus.

Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

Must be able to effectively use Microsoft Office Suite.

Must possess working knowledge of Solumina and SAP or the willingness to learn.

Must be willing to obtain NCCCO crane and rigging certification if not already certified.

Must be knowledgeable in a variety of manufacturing methods and processes.

Ability to drive and implement improvements, new methods, or standards and lead change.

Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.

Must have mechanical hands-on experience.

Ability to develop concepts into workable production devices, tools, fixtures, etc.

Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a rapidly changing environment is required.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multifunctional team.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen with no dual citizenship.
Pay: $54,000 – $88,000
The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $54,000 and $88,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed ‘at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
