The Main Responsibilities
Lumen’s Enterprise Operations organization is looking for a Planning Engineer Intern on our Carrier Relations team. The team focuses on managing voice platforms, including traditional and next-gen switches, the SS7 network, and VOIP networks. The intern would start with reporting tasks and could potentially work on SQL database management and Power BI projects.
Other responsibilities of intern will include:

- Manage voice national and select voice platforms, including traditional Time-Division Multiplexing (TDM) switches, next-gen switches, Single System 7 (SS7) network, and VOIP networks
- Monitor and report on the capacity of managed platforms, initiating capital requests for network growth and managing equipment deployment and decommissioning
- Work with SQL databases for reporting and analytics, with a focus on learning and utilizing SQL queries for data extraction and report generation
- Assist in transitioning reporting functions to Power BI for enhanced data visualization and analytics
What We Look For in a Candidate
Program eligibility is contingent on the candidate’s commitment of the entire 10-week program. No exceptions will be made.
- Required qualifications
- Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior level education status at the start of the internship
- Graduating August 2025 – May 2026
- Preferred fields include but not limited to: Engineering, Computer Science
- Intern must be able to work 40 hours per week during the 10-week program (May 30 – August 8, 2025)
- Proficiency and understanding of:
- Strong understanding of SQL and experience with database management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, with a keen interest in learning and applying Power BI for data analytics
- Basic knowledge of telecommunications, with a willingness to learn about TDM, SS7, and VOIP technologies
- Preferred qualifications
- Enjoys collaboration and works well in team environment
- Previous experience in reporting and data analysis.
- Works to think of creative solutions to challenging problems
Compensation
Internship compensation ranges depend on each individual’s level of education, geographic location, and experience/qualifications aligned to the role.
Hourly Based Pay Range:
Min: $26.00/hour
Max: $43.00/hour
