Overview

How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:

Directs facility maintenance operations in support of Carilion’s life cycle facility needs for CMC properties, based on identified needs, guidelines, regulatory standards, policies and established goals with a high level of customer satisfaction. Responsible for asset direction, safety management, regulatory compliance, expense monitoring, engineering services, operational budgeting, and multi-tradesmen supervision. Develops, implements, and monitors the implementation of operations-related policies and procedures, and pursues performance and quality improvements. 
 

  • Projects, develops and implements revenue and expense budgets. Continually assesses and reallocates resources to meet demands. Assures that scorecard goals and objectives are met. Develops budgets and feasibility studies for new projects. Recommends capital expenditures and monitors monthly cost and usage to control baseline cost for operations of the CMC maintenance & engineering department.  
  • Provides direction and support to supervisors and team leaders on daily maintenance activities and longer term projects. Evaluates the quality of completed work.
  • Defines performance measures and monitors/evaluates progress made toward measurable customer satisfaction criteria. Manages the work order control system including system upgrades. Collaboratively implements programs to continuously enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Attracts, selects, develops, and retains qualified employees, and is effective in utilizing developmental planning to expand employee skills and abilities. 
  • Manages, develops, implements, and monitors all operational activities for CMC facilities. Drives client service and satisfaction while ensuring efficient allocation of resources, and provides consultation to other primary stakeholders on departmental issues.
  • Identifies, analyzes and maintains Quality Assurance (QA) practices and protocols for the execution of departmental operations, following prescribed standards for quality maintenance services, key quality indicators and performance improvement metrics.  
  • Assures compliance with regulatory agencies including OSHA, and Joint Commissions. Stays abreast of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including Joint commission, OSHA, etc., and associated quality expectations within the system, and ensures that all such standards are met. Ensures effective negotiation and compliance with contractual agreements made with outside vendors serving the department. 
  • Resolves internal and external customer issues regarding maintenance and engineering issues. Supports Service Excellence initiatives. Uses customer feedback to recommend initiatives to improve the quality and efficiency of maintenance and engineering services.
  • Ensures effective coordination with internal and external stakeholders to service scheduled maintenance programs, including facility upgrade contracts. Ensures quality of workmanship and compliance with specifications and contractual terms. Ensures buildings retain their operational effectiveness and value.
  • Oversees the preparation and execution of contractual arrangements and monitors contract performance issues as necessary. Ensures effective coordination with internal and external stakeholders including Project Management, Carilion Design Group, and CMC Environmental Services to implement projects in all properties.
  • Participates in facility planning initiatives. Leads projects including work management, and productivity improvement.

What We Require:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration, Engineering, Real Estate Management or related field required. Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience: Seven to ten years of experience in maintenance trades, construction and/or property development, or real estate, with three to five years management or construction management experience. Experience in Healthcare Properties preferred.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Virginia Driver’s License required.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills; and possess proven leadership and management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft office suite, work order management software, and similar computer applications essential. Knowledge of and ability in the areas of blueprint reading, drafting, estimating, building construction standards, and national, state, and local codes and regulations and crafts associated with construction. 
Position is deemed “emergency personnel” during emergency weather conditions. May be required to provide own transportation and travel to other Carilion work sites.
