JOB PURPOSE:
The Calibration and Metrology Coordinator will provide oversight to CMM programmers and CMM operators while ensuring the general objectives of the CMM Lab are met. This includes supporting the inspection team, ensuring standards and nuclear guidelines are followed and equipment/calibrations are maintained
JOB STRUCTURE & COMMUNICATIONS:
The position reports to the QC Supervisor and has technical oversight of the CMM Quality Control Inspection team, over three shifts.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Lead, manage and coach the CMM Quality Control Inspectors by providing oversight and direction on CMM programming, CMM results and CMM throughput.
- Oversee the operations of the CMM lab to ensure CMM result are accurate, and throughput is maintained.
- Ensure CMM Quality Control Inspectors are trained and qualified by coordinating external training and/or by conducting internal training including developing training.
- Review and approve all CMM programs, prior to use.
- Develop, implement and control Dimensional Inspection Reports and Bubble Drawings.
- Ensure CMM programs are controlled, and only controlled versions are used.
- Interface with customers and/or vendors where complex problem-solving and/or technical interpretation of CMM results is required.
- Support CMM Quality Control Inspectors in reviewing and interpreting CMM results.
- Review and interpret CMM reports to identify areas of improvement in manufacturing to keep process variations within acceptable limits.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Quality Control (QC) lab.
- Provide technical support on CMM programs and the operation of CMMs, this includes trouble-shooting issues and implementing improvements to decrease cycle times.
- Ensure gauge calibrations are set and maintained.
- Ensure CMM performance, using established metrics, as well as introducing new and appropriate measurements as needed.
- Identify patterns and problem areas in the CMM process and develop and implement effective strategies that will ensure product quality and efficiency in production processes.
- Complete quality documentation as necessary (non-conformance reports, dimensional inspection reports, engineering change requests etc.).
- Involved in root cause analysis of non-conformances and associated actions required to correct issues.
- Support the inspection process in Operations, issue deficiency reports against departments that violate procedures, assist with interpretation of drawings, procedures, acceptance standards and product acceptability as well as deal with and resolve Customer Inspector concerns.
- Perform trend analysis on each small cell product measured in the quality lab.
- Develop process improvement plans using a variety of Quality and Continuous Process Improvement tools, including but not limited to: Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, SPC, engineering studies, DOE, Gauge R&R, etc.
- Organization: Manage multiple tasks, schedules, and resources requiring strong organizational skills. Prioritize assignments, allocate resources, and monitor progress meeting QC targets.
- Ethical Conduct: Uphold good ethical standards and be a role model. Ensure staff are fully trained/aware on company policies, including ethics, and ensure adherence.
- Effective Communication: Document and follow process for ensuring correct CMM programs are used by qualified individuals and ensuring that nonconformances are accurately documented.
- Ownership and Accountability: Take ownership of CMM activities.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulously review of CMM programs, CMM inspection reports, for accuracy and completion.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Challenges are inevitable. Identify issues early, analyzes causes, and collaborates with the team to find solutions efficiently to remove barriers in a timely manner.
- Escalation Protocol: When roadblocks occur and cannot be resolved at their level, escalate promptly. Whether it’s resource constraints, technical issues, or delays, escalate to the Quality Manager, to prevent project setbacks.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments (such as production, engineering etc.) to align production goals, priorities, and address challenges collectively.
Administration:
- Ensures all CMM Quality Inspectors are suitably trained/qualified.
- Sets a positive example by maintaining a respective attitude, cooperating with co-workers, management, and internal and external customers
- Effectively give and receive feedback and willingly asks questions and seek direction as needed.
- Willingly accepts responsibility of sharing skills and knowledge with other employees.
- Maintains an acceptable level of performance by following established policies and procedures, and participating in continuous improvement efforts by supporting and implementing new ideas.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
- Post-secondary education in metrology, quality or engineering discipline, or equivalent experience and education.
- 3 to 5 years of experience working in a quality management or supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of the use and operation of CMMs equipment, this includes the interpretation of generated reports. Experience with Zeiss (Calypso software) and Wenzel (Quartis software) as asset.
- Expertise in reading and interpreting engineering component drawings including a very strong understanding of metrology and GD&T.
- Experience working with CNC precision-machined components and related processes including heat treatment, plating, assembly and testing activities an asset
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Inspiring leader who can motivate, support and guide an indirect team to meet project and daily inspection targets.
- Ability to communicate, motivate and lead teams in the pursuit of optimal resolutions to problems.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills to lead within a team-based environment.
- Experience working in the Candu nuclear, aerospace or defense industries an asset.
- Understanding of ASME Section III Code and the ISO 9001, CSA N285.0 and CSA N299 quality standards an asset.
The hourly rate for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $65,000 and $102,000 per hour. The rate offered is based on market location and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
