Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Manager, the Controls System Technician will provide electrical maintenance and programming support to maintenance technicians as necessary, including sickness coverage. The Controls System tech will also support and carry out duties and project work assigned.
This position is accountable for effective use and implementation of Predictive Maintenance technologies and systems at the plant. This includes but is not limited to the following “Essential Functions” outlined below.
Essential Functions
- Carry out root cause failure analysis on production electrical/control systems and provide recommendations and execute work to prevent recurrence.
- Lead/participate in cross functional teams on process improvements
- Provide support regarding fault finding/modifications/installations of whole site controls systems including PLCs, SCADA, Databases, Communication networks, Instrumentation, variable speed drives etc.
- Supervision of contractors during project installation work.
- The incumbent must be willing and able to work overtime and/or non-standard work schedule based on production needs.
- Manage process control software and desktop
- Owns plant process control network and IP address assignments
- Plant Data Historian Owner
- Owns electrical control infrastructure obsolescence plan
- Drives improvements in control systems
- Plant Functional Machine Safety process owner
- Train and develop technicians to troubleshoot and fix production electrical/control system failures.
Qualifications & experience:
- Associate’s Degree or Technical Certificate in Electrical/Electronic/Software Engineering or similar field or 5+ years of experience with electrical systems, programming, and troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience of setting up & configuring variable speed drives (Allen Bradley, Telemecanique)
- PLC experience essential. Preferably Allen-Bradley. (Micrologix, SLC 5/05, Compactlogix, Controllogix)
- Experience in the use of SCADA & HMI packages desirable.
- Able to read electrical schematic drawings essential – Electrical control & safety circuit design knowledge desired (AUTOCAD software)
- Control Panel design desired, but not required.
- Knowledge of communication protocols (Ethernet IP/RIO/Devicenet/Modbus)
- Working knowledge of Pneumatic, Hydraulic and other mechanical systems
Pay Range: $87,458 – $91,716

About the Location (Hilliard OH)
Our Hilliard Plant, one of twelve Armstrong plants in North America, employs 100+ people across multiple shifts who are involved in the manufacturing and shipping of acoustical ceiling tile. The Hilliard plant prides itself in placing high priority on safety, quality and exceeding customer expectations.
