The Role
As a Lead Network Engineer, you will interact with Lumen’s financial services clients and Lumen’s engineering teams to Architect, engineer, and implement network technology solutions that fits needs of the financial industry. The role requires a proven record of achievement delivering network technology solutions to various financial institutions. Additionally, you will apply advanced engineering and network principles, theories, concepts, and technologies to solve unusually complex problems and issues. A Lead Network Engineer will also interact and drive vendor requirements, resolution of bug fixes, code upgrades, and vendor development as necessary. This position requires working with cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure interoperability and validation of features, functions, and behavior. The engineer also applies advanced engineering and network principles, theories, and concepts to solve complex problems and issues. You will be regarded as a subject matter expert and may act as a technical project lead or provide leadership for lower-level employees. Lastly, as a Lead Network Engineer, it is vital that you are self-motivated with problem solving capabilities, sense of urgency and accountability.
Location and Schedule
This is a WFH position located in either NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA, or Chicago area. Candidates must be willing to periodically travel (10% travel).
The Main Responsibilities
- The Lead Network engineer interfaces with both the client, and Lumen engineering teams. They lead complex projects, is effectively able to communicate the client’s needs and can architect, design, and implement solutions that align with those business needs.
- Architect, Design, Implement, and Troubleshoot diverse multi-protocol Networks for different needs of the financial industry. They must have adequate experience in the Architecture, Design, implementation, and maintenance of Financial Trading networks including Market Data and Ultra-low-latency trading networks.
- Perform capacity planning for all Network resources – including network devices and circuits.
- Perform a regular review of performance metrics and other key indicators, performance tuning, and day to day engineering support to ensure environmental stability.
- Develop documented procedures and run books for the engineering and NOC teams for repetitive and routine tasks.
- Use various network design documentation tools like Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Office, and other Network configuration management tools to effectively document network designs, configurations, and related data.
- Collaboratively work with Lumen’s clients and colleagues to quickly and effectively troubleshoot business impacting network issues to meet our contractual SLA obligations.
- Extensive hands-on experience with multiple internetworking devices
- Strong ability to use packet tracing technologies to troubleshoot network issues.
- Expert level troubleshooting knowledge with multiple vendor routing and forwarding architectures to resolve possible production issues or design behavior issues.
- Familiarity with Data Center Architecture/Design/Management.
What We Look For in a Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/education
- A Minimum of 7 years in the Financial Industry, preferably in a Trading environment
- Excellent documentation/technical writing skills required
- Expert level knowledge of Network Architecture, Routing, Switching, network automation, and the various routing and network switching technologies and protocols.
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Highly motivated individual.
- Willing to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Customer focused.
- Ability to work effectively and productively with others, and still comfortable working independently.
- Cisco or similar industry certifications are a big plus
Compensation
The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee’s primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual’s qualifications.
Location Based Pay Ranges
$109330 – $182220 in these states: NJ and NY
As with the pay range variety that’s based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.
