Project Overview:

Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

 

UPF will be a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar project and will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.

 

This is a NIGHT SHIFT position. The UPF Construction project works on various schedules with differing start times, and may require employees to work overtime, weekends, and/or dayshift when a business need arises.

 

Eligibility for this position requires US citizenship; successful candidate must provide proof of US citizenship to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.

 

Job Summary:

In this role, you will manage a team and provide field engineering leadership for work planning and packaging, material management, quantity validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and coordination of system turnover and subcontracts. Your oversight will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. #LI-CL1

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepares field change documents and requests for information.
  • Prepares cost estimates and reviews project design and engineering bill of materials to ensure their completeness.
  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases.
  • Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.
  • Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required.
  • Validates installation of materials through inspection / documentation.
  • Verifies material quality, workmanship, and assures results meet quality requirements based on codes, specifications, and design drawings.
  • Reviews project design and engineering documents, model, and model data to ensure their completeness and readiness for construction.
  • Interfaces with construction engineers, discipline superintendents, foremen, and craft professionals in interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
  • Utilizes and leverages applicable automation software and processes.
  • On a small to medium size job, performs the duties of a lead engineer in either an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines, or as a Deputy Project Field Engineer, coordinating all activities related to the operation of assigned operating section.

Leadership/Supervision

  • Proactively engages with their teams’ development through CPM, competency development/assessment, and feedback.
  • Leads in a broad range of construction engineering work within a specific engineering discipline.

Work Planning & Packaging

  • Coordinates with design on constructability issues.

Material Management

  • Directs the preparation of requisitions for field procured materials, material substitution, services, and equipment.

Quantities

  • Possesses responsibility for quantity take-off, control, reporting, and forecasting.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Required bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience​.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Candidate should be a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization, resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.
  • Candidate should have working knowledge of design codes and standards including NFPA 70-2014, and NQA-1.
  • Experience with DOE, DOD, and/or commercial nuclear construction projects is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Incidents” ES&H Program.
  • Recent experience as an Electrical Field Engineer.
